Cornhole Game History

The cornhole game history is much older than you may think. Though it may seem like this fun outdoor game is a bit of a new craze that's sweeping the country, the game has actually been around for centuries.

Contrary to popular belief, the game didn't get its start in Cincinnati, Ohio. The origin of the bean bag toss game in the United States was probably the Cincinnati area, but it's believed that German immigrants brought this fun backyard game with them when they came to America.

It's said that a German farmer named Matthias Kueperman invented cornhole, also called bean bag toss, way back in 1325.

How He Came Up With The Idea

One spring morning, Matthias was out walking about and noticed a group of boys trying to throw large stones into a hole that had been dug into the ground. Seeing this, Kuepermann thought it was a bit dangerous for the boys to be tossing heavy stones back and forth at each other.

He set about making the game safer for the boys, and thus the idea for cornhole was born. Sure, the game has had some changes since then, but it's basically the same game today. Now you know a bit about the cornhole game history.
